Not sure where to start when designing a yard you love? Consider your everyday surroundings — and the special places you visit.
We know, creating the yard of your dreams may sound daunting. But it doesn't have to be.
If you're not sure where to begin, just think about the things you love. Whether these are everyday scenarios or unique ones, the simplest observation just might spark a vision that's perfect for your home.
Take us, for example. We were out and about yesterday, a Saturday, when we decided to pop into a local nursery, Emerald Island Garden Center in Cocoa, just for kicks.
The CEO's wife, recently back from a long-delayed visit to Europe with her daughter, came home inspired. (Now married to a landscaper, she's got a whole new appreciation for just how intricate and beautiful flowers, plants, bushes, and other foliage are — and how they can polish off the perfect look for any home or business.)
Seeing this in both London and Paris — with all kinds of architecture and historic museums, cathedrals, and other landmarks boasting a variety of blooms, vines, and other vegetation — she was inspired by some of the planters she spied at the business. That's why this planter spoke to her:
So, we snagged this statuesque container, a Barberton daisy (a Southeastern African plant that's become popular as a house plant and more), and some soil.
This means now, we've got this fun addition to our backyard:
We also scored some fun decorative garden stakes, too. We just couldn't resist.
One wasn't enough.
In addition, we picked up some sea grapes to plant in our yard. Yep, we're in Rockledge, which isn't beach territory. But they remind us of Beachplace Guesthouses, where Kurt and his wife tied the knot last year. So, we're going to bring the beach to us. Kinda.
We can't wait to plant them!
We encourage you to do the same. Find some features that speak to you — speak of you — and incorporate them into your own yard's design.
The possibilities are endless. And the sky is literally the limit.
