Trash or treasure? Here's how to recycle garden décor for your own yard.

Sometimes, it's all in the mind of the beholder. With a little bit of imagination.

Ever seen something on the side of the road on garbage day? A garden structure, statue or something similar?

And then have the thought, "I could do something with this..."

Well, you can. (Just make sure you're taking something specifically left out with the trash — don't step onto someone's property. It's a no-no.)

Take this former water fountain. (Which just began the painting process.)

Our owner, Kurt, spied it early one morning before waste management made the rounds. And he envisioned its new lease on life.

As a birdbath.

So, we did a quick Google search and made a trip to Lowe's for some painting supplies. (Check out this article, "Best Non-Toxic Bird Bath Paint: A Starter Guide For Newbies!" on Birding Outdoors' website. It'll tell you which paints are safe for our feathered friends and other wildlife.)

So, here's how it started out...

And here's the transformation:

Finishing touches....

A pop of color.

Water's here. Come on, birds!

All this took was a afternoon or two to complete this project. That includes prep, priming, painting, drying, and finding the perfect place for it to shine in its new purpose.

It's just another way to add character to your yard. And enjoy your outdoor oasis even more.
