The backyard. Before.
When we bought this Rockledge home two years ago, the yard needed some serious TLC. Grass was nearly nonexistent. Weeds had gone wild. It was clear the property, which had been rented out for some time, had been pretty neglected. Trees and shrubs were overgrown and unkempt. The large oak tree, the centerpiece of the backyard, was wildly overgrown and encroaching on the roof (a big no-no, not just for aesthetics, but home and property safety, too).

Basically, it was unloved.

But we felt something for it. And saw the potential.
Pretty ragged, right? Not for long. See how our crew transformed the weed-infested, unkempt mess — and turned it into a backyard oasis.

While we continue to work on beautifying our property, we're smitten with its transformation already. The highlights of what we did:

Weeding and trimming.

Removing dead (or nearly dead) trees and shrubs.

Adding concreate block trim.

New sod!

Mulch.

Lighting.

Character. Which means signs, statutes, planters, flags and other decorative trinkets that tell our story. It's our backyard. And we want it to reflect us. (Learn more about that here.)

Pavers. We used brick to have an outdoor patio, plus added a fire pit for the kids to kick back and enjoy s'mores with their friends.
